Eagle Construction had a very successful night at the 2010 Major Achievements in Marketing Excellence (MAME) Awards on Thursday, March 24^th 2011.  This success would not have been possible without the relationship we have and enjoy with all of the Realtors in the Richmond Association of Realtors.  We are proud to announce that we received eight awards in total and among those, we are especially honored to be recognized as the 2010 Builder of the Year and Community of the Year.

The Community of the Year (Development of 126 to 500 Home Sites) was awarded to our community at West Broad Village.  We have worked very hard to get West Broad Village back on its feet from the tough times it experienced in 2009.  Through the support of the Realtor community, by showcasing our Brownstones, you have helped us achieve record sales and transform West Broad Village into the sought after urban village it is today.  2011 is showing signs of even greater achievements with the unveiling of our new product on March 1^st, 2011, the Village Townes – 3-story townhomes priced from the upper $240′s. Receiving the 2010 Builder of the Year Award(Builds 76 to 150 Homes Annually) is a tremendous honor. We have received this title many times in the past and strive to maintain it by providing a quality product at an affordable price in excellent locations. Being an EarthCraft certified builder has absolutely contributed to this success and we are proud to build healthy, energy efficient and comfortable homes that reduce energy costs and conserve natural resources during construction.

Other titles received at the 2010 MAME awards were: Best Electronic Media (West Broad Village Website), Best Community Brochure (West Broad Village), Best Merchandising of a Model (West Broad Village), Marketing Excellence by a Builder, Sales Manager of the Year : Josh Goldschmidt,  ACE Award : Mike Leland and Sales Volume Silver and Gold Awards.

This is the wisdom I took away from a recent meeting with a landowner in Chesterfield County.  This gentleman is in his 80′s and is very concerned about how he’ll leave his wife’s financial position should something happen to him.  His concern prompted a conversation where he told me he doesn’t let a day go by that he doesn’t work towards finishing his mission of securing his wife’s future.  That really hit home with me.  The piece of property in question is one that he has owned for some time and wants to use to generate long term income for his family, while trying to protect against a significant tax burden.  He wants to get the deal done as soon as possible so he knows his family is secure.  He said to me a number of times in our meeting, “If the opportunity comes to save a day, don’t waste it.”

It was this powerful message that I imparted on our team at our monthly companies staff meeting last week.  I encouraged them to finish a project every day, no matter how small.  It is a very cliché phrase, but one that is very true – don’t put off something you can accomplish today until tomorrow.  Finish a work order, that advertisement you’ve been tweaking, complete an MLS listing or the open house postcard you’ve been working on.  Don’t put it off until tomorrow because you never know what new projects may arise.  The Eagle Companies are preparing for very exciting events in the coming months – our big move to West Broad Village, the new Home Gallery (“the hub of our business” as Jeff Kornblau calls it), the launch of new communities and our continued, strong presence in our current neighborhoods.

If our team, or any team for that matter, uses this perspective, we will be overly prepared as the market and housing demand improve this year.  We will be ready for the new projects we take on and the new, but exciting, obstacles we will inevitably face.  So that is my challenge to my team, and to you – what can you finish today that will leave you more prepared for the opportunities that lie in tomorrow?
